WPS Office ads: what you can turn off

Free software is paid for somehow. Kingsoft says ads fund servers. You can quiet some prompts in Settings. You cannot ethically “crack” the suite. Here is the line we will help you walk.

Student who dealt with ads then learned the settings

Primary source: Kingsoft Help, “Why am I seeing ads?” The company compares free-product ads to search ads: the core editors stay free, selected promotions help pay for infrastructure. Premium is the documented way to remove ads aside from some product messages.

Do this first (supported)

  1. Open any module → avatar / Settings / Settings Center.
  2. Look for General, Notifications, or a promotions / splash group.
  3. Disable startup splash promotions, product message push, and taskbar bubbles if those toggles exist in your build.
  4. Sign in. Some switches store in the cloud and reset after a major upgrade - check them once after updating.

What Premium buys on this topic

According to the same help article, Premium users should not see ads except certain WPS information and feedback pushes. You also get the PDF and recovery extras that usually sit behind the same paywall. See Free vs Premium.

What we will not publish

  • Hosts-file or firewall recipes aimed at breaking ad or license checks.
  • Registry “locks” copied from unofficial blogs.
  • Patched clients. Those are malware delivery systems with extra steps.

If the popup is not even WPS

Browser search hijacks after install mean you used a fake download site. Uninstall unknown toolbars, run Windows Security, and reinstall from wps.com. That is not a Settings toggle. That is cleanup.

How to reduce WPS Office ads without breaking updates

Use Settings Center promotions and notification toggles. Premium is the documented mute button. Do not edit the hosts file or firewall the updater - that blocks security patches. If ads appeared after a random EXE, you have malware cleanup, not a WPS setting.

Kingsoft’s help pages distinguish PC and Android surfaces. A toggle that exists on Windows may not exist on a phone. Treat forum “one registry key” posts as outdated until you see the same label in your build.
