Checklist
- Confirm the file size is not 0 KB. Re-download from the original mail or portal.
- If a password dialog appears, that is success of a sort - get the password. Do not look for “PDF password crackers” on this site; we will not help with that.
- Try another reader (Edge, official Adobe Reader) to see if the file is globally damaged.
- In WPS, look for Repair / Document Recovery on the error dialog.
- Ask the sender for a fresh export from Word or InDesign if the PDF was never valid (failed print-to-PDF).
Damaged email attachments
Corporate gateways sometimes strip the last bytes. A re-send as a zip (if policy allows) or a Cloud link is cleaner than repair.
When repair “works” but pages are blank
You recovered the wrapper, not the streams. You need the source file. This is the moment to stop clicking random repair utilities that want a credit card.
When another reader opens it and WPS does not
Edge or Chrome may have cached a complete file while your disk copy is truncated. Re-download. If every reader fails, the PDF was never valid - ask for a fresh export from Word or InDesign. Repair utilities that want a credit card in the error dialog are not Kingsoft.
WPS Office cannot open PDF: fastest checks
File size 0 KB → re-download. Password dialog → ask the sender. Chrome opens it → you may have a truncated disk copy. Every reader fails → ask for a fresh export. We will not help bypass passwords you do not own.
Owner restrictions vs passwords
A file can open for reading and still refuse print or edit. That is a permission flag, not a crash. Ask the sender for an unlocked export if you are supposed to mark it up.
